Around the Mull Whisky Trail

We invite you to join us at Largs Yacht Haven for this epic voyage taking in a number of Whisky Distilleries on the West Coast where you will get a chance to visit the distilleries and taste the blended whiskies.

We will meet at midday on Saturday, and you will be allocated your berth and briefed on the safety equipment on board your yacht which will be your home for the next seven days.

When you're settled in we will set sail towards the beautiful Isle of Arran where we will  spend the night. We will either eat on board or go ashore to the Pierhead Tavern for a tasty supper, where we can also expect live music.

On Sunday we will sail south down the coast of Arran, past Pladda and West to Campbeltown. The views of the mountains of Arran are quite stunning.

There is a lovely Distillery at Campbeltown that was built be in 1828. Springburn Distillery still use traditional methods of producing the whisky and we will visit on Monday and take a guided tour. For those who wish, you may like to taste the malt whiskies on offer.

On Tuesday we will head South from Campbeltown and sail round the Mull of Kintyre. Our destination is Port Ellen on Islay. It's a lovely small town which I am sure you will enjoy. We have an excellent choice of Distilleries to visit. On Wednesday you can either visit the Distilleries at Laphroaig, Lagavulin or Ardbeg which are close to Port Ellen or alternatively, you can catch the bus across the island and visit the two rather more remote distilleries

Bowmore & Caol Ila at Port Askaig.

On Thursday we will sail up to Jura and take a mooring in Craighouse Bay.

This will be the last of our distillery visits before we depart for Oban.

On Friday. It's a lovely sail up to Oban with some beautiful wild scenery. There is a very good chance of seeing porpoises and the sight of Gannets crash diving for fish is spectacular.

Your last night will be spent at the Town Pontoons Oban It is just a short walk to lots of great restaurants and pubs.

The West Coast Explorer & Whisky Trail

In the summer we dedicate our cruise to sailing from Oban to the Western Isles.

It’s all quite magical, with absolutely splendid, rugged scenery.

Oban has a character of its own, busy in the summer and plenty to do.

Oban serves the Island of Mull, Iona Coll & Tiree.

You will have a chance to visit Tobermory on Mull towards the end of the week and many of the Islands on the West Coast as you visit the most favourite Distilleries on The West Coast.

Providing the wind is right we’re going to head south from Oban on Saturday once you have settled in on the boat and had your safety briefings.

A short sail from Oban will see us in the sheltered Polluadrhain Anchorage for the night. We will eat on the boat, however it’s a short walk to the “Tigh An Truish”  a pub just by the Clachan Bridge:-

the “Bridge over the Atlantic”

On Sunday we will continue South, making the most of the strong tides down through The Sound of Luing, past the Corryvreckan Whirlpool, and down the Firth of Lorne to Craighouse on Jura.

This will get us prepared for our first Distillery visit at Craighouse on Monday morning. We will sail down to Port Ellen on Islay on Monday afternoon.

Port Ellen’s a lovely small town which I am sure you will enjoy. We have an excellent choice of Distilleries to visit. On Tuesday you can either visit the Distilleries at Laphroaig, Lagavulin or Ardbeg which are close to Port Ellen or alternatively, you can catch the bus across the island and visit the two rather more remote distilleries Bowmore & Caol Ila at Port Askaig.

On Wednesday we will head North, sailing through the Sound of Islay up to “Tinker’s Hole” on the south side of the island of Mull.

Plenty to look out for as there is always a good chance to see Humpback Whales, Porpoises, Dolphins, and Killer Whales (Orca)  Also a good chance to spot Eagles soaring in the mountain Crags and Gannets diving for fish !

On Thursday we will sail up The Sound of Iona, stopping off at “Fingal’s Cave” and making our way around the Northern Shores of Mull and sailing to Tobermory for the night.

It will be your last chance to sample the delights of the Distilleries at Tobermory before we head south back to Oban on Friday. Your last night will be spent at the Town Pontoons Oban It is just a short walk to lots of great restaurants and pubs.
